ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Age & Weight Requirements

The beauty of Youth Football is that the sport matches up participants not just by their age but also by their size. The age and weight limits are strictly enforced for safety reasons. Players are certified as to their age and weight prior to the start of the season and are then weighed prior to each game to make sure that they still meet weight limits.

The Diablo Valley Youth Football Conference also allows "Older-Lighters" at the Peewee and Jr. Midget levels. These are participants who cannot make the bottom weight of the next division of play. What they lack in size is compensated for with a little extra maturity.

Playing age is defined as the participant's age on August 1st, 2007. For new participants an original birth certificate or a certified copy from their county of birth, a passport or green card is required as proof of birth. CVAA is required to turn this in to DVYFC (Diablo Valley Youth Football Conference) for "Official Certification" purposes. It will be returned to us in time for the first game of the season. Please note that notarized copies, photocopies etc are not acceptable. If the required proof of age is not submitted a child may not participate in the CVAA program. In rare circumstances, such proof may not be available. If this is the case contact us as soon as possible so that we may consult with the Conference to determine if any other proof is acceptable.

The weight requirements listed below must be met at "Official Weigh-ins" and at the first game of the season. The weight limits increase periodically as the season progresses.

Cuts

The continuing sucess of our Falcon teams has led to a much greater demand for our services. As more and more young athletes become interested in Falcon Football and Cheerleading we must face the fact that more and more kids will be cut. It is fundamental to our organization's philosophy that every young athlete have an equal opportunity to sign-up, tryout, and participate. We therefore will not limit our sign-ups.

We will provide the opportunity for each young athlete to do his or her best at the tryouts and practices so that their individual efforts will continue to be the major factor in determining who makes the team.

When we do have more athletes signed up than will fit on our limited rosters we must select those participants that in each head coach's estimation will best fit his/her team or squad. The decision as to who gets "cut" rests solely with that team's or squad's head coach and the Athletic Director or Cheer Coordinator. Their decisions are only reached after serious consideration of all relevant factors and are final.

We deeply regret the disappointment that is inevitable when a child is told that he/she can no longer participate. We encourage all parents to talk to their children about the necessity of "cuts" and prepare them for that possibility with love and support.

Arrangements can often be made for those who are cut to join other area teams. Head coaches will provide more information durring practices.

Good luck to all!

Practice Information

Participants may only begin practice if CVAA has received ALL of the following:
  • Birth Certificate (We will also accept Certified Copy of Birth Certificate, Passport, or Green Card)
  • Registration Forms
  • Official Physical Card (available at sign-ups) signed and dated by a physician
  • Payment for all Football Participant Costs (See the Football Participant Costs page.)
Participants should ALWAYS bring to practice:
  • plenty of water
  • athletic supporter (jock strap)
  • football shoes with rubber molded cleats (Metal, screw-in cleats are considered a safety hazard and is strictly forbidden)
  • pads (after they have been distributed)

Practice begins on August 1, 2007 at Clayton Valley High School (located at 1101 Alberta Way in Concord). From August 1 to the first game of the season, practice runs 5 nights a week from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

After the first game, practice will be held 3 nights a week from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Days may change slightly depending on need. Times may change slightly as light fails. (Ask your coach for details.)

Each participant MUST have 10 hours of football practice without pads before he begins any "hitting" practice with pads. This is a requirement. There is no exception to this rule.
