Cheer Requirements

Cheer Squads are divided by age. Cheering age is defined as the Cheer Participant's age on August 1st, 2007.

Based on age, Cheer Participants may be eligible for more than one squad. They will be assigned to specific squads at the discretion of the cheer coordinator following try-outs. In general, CVAA will attempt to maximize the number of participants in the program overall. Participant's may request to be on a particular squad but there are no guarantees.

Cheer Practice Information

Cheer Participants may only begin practice if CVAA has received ALL of the following:
  • Birth Certificate (We will also accept Certified Copy of Birth Certificate, Passport, or Green Card)
  • Registration Forms
  • Official Physical Card (available at sign-ups) signed and dated by a physician
  • Payment for all Cheer Participant Costs (See the Cheer Participant Costs page.)
Cheer Participants should:
  • bring plenty of water (no energy drinks, such as Red Bull, Monster, etc)
  • wear comfortable clothes (loose cotton shorts, tank or t-shirt)
  • wear tennis shoes with socks
  • NOT wear make-up, nail polish, zippers, and buttons

Practice begins on August 1, 2007 at Clayton Valley High School (1101 Alberta Way in Concord). From August 1 to the first game of the season, practice runs 5 nights a week from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

After the first game, practice will be held 3 nights a week from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Days may change slightly depending on need. Times may change slightly as light fails. (Ask your Head Cheer Coach for details.)

NOTE - Depending on what day August 1 falls there may be a practice on the first Saturday in August.

Cheer Clinic Information

Prior to the Cheer Tryouts, the girls must attend a mandatory Cheer Clinic. The Cheer Clinic is held over 5 evenings at the Clayton Valley High School quad. (Please check the Calendar for dates and location.)

Girls will be divided into 4 groups based on age and experience. Each group will be taught a cheer/dance by the Coaches and Junior Instructors. A new cheer/dance is chosen each year so returning cheerleaders have no advantage over new participants. This cheer/dance will be performed at the Cheer Tryouts.

Cheer Clinic Participants should:

  • bring plenty of water (no energy drinks, such as Red Bull, Monster, etc)
  • wear their Cheer T-shirt
  • wear comfortable shorts
  • wear sneakers
  • NOT wear jewelry
  • NOT wear makeup
  • NOT wear nail polish

Cheer Tryouts Information

The tryouts will be held at Clayton Valley High School in the Multi-Purpose room.

Participants will be asked to perform the cheer/dance they learned during the Cheer Clinic in front of the judges. The judges are provided by an independent organization hired by CVAA to ensure fairness.

The 2007 Falcon Cheer Squads will be chosen based on the the participant's performance on their attitude during the week long camp.

All candidates will be notified of their standing during the evening following the Cheer Tryouts. Those not making the squad may be placed on a waiting list, at the discretion of the Cheer Coordinator, as spaces often open up during the summer.

Due to the continued success of our program, CVAA usually carries full cheer squads. Our Cheer Coordinator is in frequent contact with other cheer coordinators and may be able to recommend other organizations that are looking for participants.

Cheer Competitions Information

Each season our cheer squads may be invited to attend several cheerleading competitions that are not sponsored by CVAA or DVYFC and their costs are not included in the CVAA participation fee. The actual dates and costs for these competitions are not usually available until well after sign-ups. However, your Cheer Head Coach can give you a cost estimate based upon previous years' experience at the following cheer competitions:
  • JAMZ two-day Cheer Camp
  • Great America Competition
  • Marine World Competition
  • PYRAMIDS Competition
Based on past surveys, the kids have told us that participating in these events was by far the most fun of the season. These events do require total squad participation in order to be competitive. We therefore encourage parents to anticipate the extra costs and plan to attend these very exciting and memorable events as they become available.

Each squad may also have the option of having a team fundraiser (carwash, candy sales, etc) to help defray these costs. More information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
